Mona Peters, a German Designer with experience in digital technologies and in design creation of spaces for film and location based experiences. Sebastian Contreras Rodriguez, a Chilean Architect with expertise in affordable housing, building techniques and local cultures, joined their skills and passions to found MTspace_studio, with a shared vision to address the global housing crisis.

Mona Peters, a German native, is a dynamic spatial designer and art director with a passion for biophilic architecture. Graduating from the University of the Arts Berlin in 2014 with a master’s degree in visual communication, Mona continued her academic journey at Massey University Wellington, earning a second master’s degree in concept design in 2021.

Mona’s expertise lies at the intersection of spatial design, management, and art direction for film, location-based experiences, architecture, and virtual worlds. With a background in physical model making, she seamlessly integrates digital technologies, including VR and 3d printing, into her creative process.

Her work focuses on crafting spatial designs that invite, enhance well-being, and foster community while harmonizing with the natural environment. Mona’s projects have reached millions of viewers, including her contributions to the 2021 film “Avatar: The Way of Water,” where she supervised the creation of the models for the Metkayina village.

Co-founding MT space studio with Sebastian Contreras Rodrigues, they won the first prize in Icons Initiative 99 competition, showcasing affordable 3D printed architecture. She currently serves as design director at MT space studio while managing international location-based experience projects.

Sebastián Contreras Rodríguez, a Chilean native, is an energetic architect with a passion for technology, ecology, and houses. Graduated from the Catholic University of Chile in 2003 with studies at Politenico de Milan, he completed his Master's Degree in Architecture in 2005 and in 2010 specialized in Integrated Urban Planning and Management focusing on affordable housing.

His line of research development is linked to the residential habitat, recognising cultural, ecological and technological aspects. His works seek to reflect the values of the cultural diversity of the inhabitants, ensuring harmony with nature and paying special attention to materials and construction systems.

His projects have been developed in Colombia, Mexico, Thailand and New Zealand. He is a university professor with more than 15 years of experience in affordable housing. He has given lectures and workshops in different universities in South America, Europe and New Zealand.

It has been awarded in international architecture competitions, such as the HOLCIM Sustainable Architecture of the year 2021, with the best rural social housing in South America and in 2024 it obtained first place in the ICON Initiative 99 competition, with a community of affordable housing built with technology 3d printing.

For many years he directed Espacio Espacial Arquitectos and today, together with Mona Peters, they lead MTspace_studio.
